Giraffe's Low-Carb Smothered Onion Gravy Burgers

Hearty, rich, and thick brown gravy has always been a favorite. However, with flour as one of it's main ingredients, we've placed gravy on the back burner for quite awhile.

Since discovering Carbquik, we thought we would attempt to make a low-carb gravy recipe of some sort.  Giraffe's Smothered Low-Carb Onion Gravy Burgers came to mind.

As we were cooking our tantalizing recipe, the scents from the kitchen brought us back to a time when Mom would be making dinner for us at a young age.

Our recipe took longer to create than most of our usual dishes. However, the wait was well worth the time.

Preparation time was about 20 minutes, while cooking time was an additional 1 hour.

Our purchased ingredients were:

3 Pounds of Ground Beef
3 Eggs
2 Large Onions
1 Package of Bacon
6 Tbsp. Olive Oil
2 Large Cans of Sliced Mushrooms
2 Cups of Carbquik + 1/2 Cup of Carbquik
2 Cups of Beef Broth
2 Cups of Water
2 tsp. Garlic Powder
2 Tbsp.of Browning and Seasoning Sauce
1 Tbsp. Worcestershire Sauce
1 tsp. Black Pepper + 1 tsp. Black Pepper
1/2 Cup Parmesan Cheese

We'll begin by placing our hamburger in our large mixing bowl.

We'll then, add our Parmesan Cheese, eggs, Garlic Powder, and pepper.

Next, we'll chop our onion in our As Seen On TV One Second Slicer and will add to our meat mixture.

We'll then, slice our bacon into small cube sized pieces.

Next, we'll spray our skillet with cooking spray and will cook our bacon on medium heat until our bacon has browned.

We'll then drain our bacon, add to our hamburger mixture, and will stir until well blended.

Our recipes usually make enough for at least one night of leftovers. However, by using the family size package of hamburger, this recipe will probably make enough for at least three nights of leftovers.

We'll shape our mixture into 14 hamburger patties and will place aside.

Because we have a large quantity of burgers, we placed 6 Tbsp. of Olive Oil in a deep baking dish and placed over 2 burners, on medium heat.

We also placed 3 Tbsp. of Olive Oil into another skillet and placed on our opposite burner.

This will give us enough area to cook all 14 patties at the same time.

We'll then, pour our 2 cups of Carbquik into another mixing bowl and will also place aside.

Once our oil begins to slightly smoke, we'll dunk each patty into our Carbquik, so that both sides are completely coated, and will place directly into the oil.

We'll then, cook our burgers for about 5 minutes, or until browned.

Next, we'll flip them over, will cook for another 5 minutes, and will remove each patty, placing them aside.

We'll then, save our hamburger drippings in our pan, adding our sliced onions and water, and will cook on medium heat until slightly translucent.

We'll stir them frequently, so that our onions do not burn and then we'll also place them aside.

Next, we'll place our 1/2 cup of Carbquik, beef broth, water, Worcestershire Sauce, Browning & Seasoning Sauce, and pepper into another mixing bowl and will whisk together until blended, as much as possible.

We'll then, return our onions to our medium heat and will add our whisked mixture, stirring frequently, until our gravy has thickened.

Once our gravy has slightly thickened, we'll add our hamburger patties.

We'll then flip each patty, a couple of times, allowing each side to absorb our gravy.

We'll then add our mushrooms, cover, lower our temperature to a simmer, and will cook for another 20 minutes, flipping each patty every 5 minutes.

This will allow each side to marinate and cook evenly.

Our succulent brown gravy hamburger patties are now ready to be served.

My husband and I both agree that the aroma and scents permeating our apartment brought us back to another time when Mom cooked our yummy dinners.

Our burgers are moist, tasty, and are filled with onion flavor. Our smothered gravy is rich and savory, tasting as if we were dining in a Southern Restaurant.

As mentioned before, we know have enough hamburger patties to last us for 2-3 dinners.

We hope you enjoy our taste of the South as much as we have!

From our kitchen to yours ~ enjoy!!! Bon Appetit!!
